[Media: Tell a Friend - Recruit new carers]

On 7 October we launched our Tell A Friend campaign, Give me a break.. . , to encourage existing short break carers to tell their friends, family and colleagues about the need for more short break carers.

We are encouraging existing short break carers to send a Tell a friend postcard.pdf postcard to anyone they think may be interested in finding out more about becoming a short break carer. Further infomation is also available from Become a short break carer

In our Fourth national survey 2007 73% of schemes said word of mouth was the most effective method to recruit short break carers. This has increased since the last survey, when 60% of schemes stated that this was the most effective method. Our research has also shown that many short break carers already knew the child before they became a short break carer.

If existing providers and recipients of short breaks 'Tell A Friend' about the rewarding role they can play in the lives of a disabled child and their family, we can reach our target to double the number of disabled children receiving a short break by 2012.

Success stories

If you have successfully recruited one of your friends as a short break carer we would love to hear from you.
