Aiming High for Disabled Children (AHDC) provides unprecedented investment in short breaks. Now our challenge is to maximise the value of that investment at delivery level. This conference will provide practical advice & training around implementation of AHDC and the provision of short breaks for children who are hard to place – in particular those children and young people with Autism, challenging behaviour and/or with complex health care needs.

Guest Speakers include:

  • Ros Blackburn - One woman’s personal experience of living with autism
  • Christine Lenehan, Council For Disabled Children - The Vision for Short Breaks
  • Beth McPeherson-Jones, Programme Director - Together for Disabled Children
  • Laura Black, Us in A Bus - Building connection and communication with those who can seem "difficult to reach".

Workshops include:

  • Intensive Interaction
  • Safeguarding Children
  • Disability Equality Training
  • Autism Academy for carers
  • Visual methods of communication
  • Moving and Handling
  • How to get the most out of Share The Care Week
  • Culturally appropriate short breaks
